Amine Hila, M.D.


Dr. Hila received his medical degree from the Faculté de Médecine de Tunis. He completed his Internship and Residency at the Graduate Hospital in Internal Medicine in Philadelphia followed by a combined clinical research fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical University of South Carolina.


Dr. Hila is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist practicing here at BGA.  He is an assistant professor for Upstate Medical University Clinical Campus and holds memberships with the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Medical Association.


Dr. Hila is a national expert on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), swallowing disorders, and esophageal motility diseases.


He runs a state of the art esophageal testing laboratory at BGA.

Ali Marhaba, M.D.


Dr. Marhaba completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at The American University of Beirut in Lebanon and his graduate degree in medicine from the University of Beirut. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the New York Medical College Department of Medicine and his Fellowship at the State University of New York at Buffalo’s Medical Dental Consortium.


Dr. Marhaba is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist at BGA with a special interest in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatogrophy (ERCP). He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association.


Gregory P. Scagnelli, M.D.


Dr. Scagnelli received his Bachelor of Arts at Hunter College in New York City and his Medical Degree at the Universidad Central el Este in the Dominican Republic.  He completed his Internship and Residency at St. Lukes Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and his Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Virginia Children’s Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.


Dr. Scagnelli is a Board Certified Pediatric Gastroenterologist here at BGA.  He is the Director of Pediatrics and a Clinical Associate Professor at Upstate Medical University’s Clinical Campus, the Director of Pediatrics for UHS Hospitals and the Director of the UHS Hospitals Infusion Center-Pediatrics.  He holds memberships with the American College of Gastroenterology, The American Gastroenterology Association, and the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. His special interests include Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease.


Dr. Scagnelli lives in Vestal with his wife Laura. They have three grown children and two adorable grandsons.

Mark V. Shumeyko, M.D.


Dr. Shumeyko completed his Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and his graduate degree in Medicine at the College of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey at New Jersey Medical School in Newark.  He completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship in Digestive Diseases at the New Jersey Medical School. 


Dr. Shumeyko is a Board certified gastroenterologist at BGA with a special interest in Capsule Endoscopy.  He holds memberships with the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Medical Association. 


Dr. Shumeyko lives in Vestal with his wife Nancy, an OBGYN. They have two grown children.

Jessica A. Koscelnak, MSN, FNP-BC


Jessica is currently an  ANCC board certified Nurse Practitioner here at BGA.  She went to Marywood University for her undergraduate degree and the University of Scranton for her graduate degree in Nursing. Jessica has been working in Gastroenterology since 2006.  She is a member of the organization of Nurse Practitioners of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Jessica is interested in health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of chronic Gastrointestinal diseases.


Jessica lives with her family and her dog.

Sarah L. Silvanic, MS, FNP-BC, PCNP


Sarah is currently a Nurse Practitioner here at BGA.  She grew up in Binghamton and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Binghamton University Decker School of Nursing. Sarah has been working as an RN since 2002 in the Binghamton area.  She is especially interested in patient care. Sarah wants everyone to know that she loves her job with BGA. She enjoys helping a large array of people with different symptoms and unique needs. Sarah lives in Port Crane, NY with her two children and is lucky to have a large extended family in the Binghamton area. She enjoys reading, writing, being outdoors, and cooking!

Martha E. Langhorne, MSN, RN, FNP, AOCN


Martha is a Nurse Practitioner here at BGA.  She received her Masters Degree from Binghamton University and post-Masters Nurse Practitioner Certificate.   She is doing part time training towards her Doctorate in Nursing Research.  Martha has previously worked in Oncology.


She is a member of numerous organizations such as the Oncology Nursing Society, Sigma Theta Tall, Zeta Iota Chapter, and the New York State Nursing Association - District 5.

Leslie Bank, M.D.


Dr. Bank received his degree from the University of Cape Town Medical School in South Africa.  He completed his Residency and Fellowship at Groote Schuur Hospital and practiced medicine in Cape Town and Johannesburg prior to moving to Binghamton.


Dr. Bank is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist practicing here at BGA. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine-Gastroenterology with Upstate Medical University Clinical Campus, the Director of Resident Research at UHS Hospitals, and is the Director of the UHS Infusion Center-Adults. He holds memberships with the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, is a principle investigator for numerous clinical trials, and an avid lecturer.


Dr. Bank’s special interests include Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Hepatitis B & C.


Dr. Bank lives in Binghamton with his wife, Barbara. They have four grown children and are the proud grandparents of three.

Layth Saymeh, M.D.


Dr. Saymeh received his degree from The College of Medicine at Tishreen Univeristy in Lattakia, Syria and completed Residencies at the Jordan Univeristy Hospital in Amman, Jordan and at Cornell University’s New York Flushing Hospital in New York. Dr. Saymeh has held fellowships in Gastroenterology at The Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Advance Endoscopy/ERCP at Midwest Therapeutic Endoscopy Consultants in St. Louis, Missouri, and in Advance Endoscopy/Endoscopic Ultrasound at the University of Montreal Hospital in Canada.


Dr. Saymeh is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist practicing here at BGA. Prior to his recent move to the Greater Binghamton Area, Dr. Saymeh worked as a Gastroenterologist in Iowa and Ohio and as an Assistant Professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association and a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Saymeh’s special interests include Diagnostic and Therapeutic Pancreaticobilliary Endoscopy (ERCP & EUS), gastro-intestinal malignancies, colon cancer screening and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.


Dr. Saymeh is married and blessed with three children.
